Introduction
| This 'Shakti Peeth' is situated in the State of Himachal Pradesh that is called Dev Bhumi (the land of gods), 34 KM. away from Kangra. | |

King Bhumichand Katoch got this temple built in the nagar-Sikh style. It was Maharaja Ranjit Singh and Maharaja Khadag Singh (father-son duo) who got its roof of gold and doors of silver built respectively. |

The temple of Mother has no statue. There are only a darven out of which the flames of fire have been coming out continuously since ancient time. It is said that they have been named Anpurna. Hinglaj. Mahalakshmi. Mahakali etc. after different goddesses. |

A very big fair is organized here on the occasion of both navratras (Ashwin-October and Chaitra-March/April) 101 priests of the temple worship Mother with complete devotion and get the devotees see her. |

Mythological Beliefs

According to the Tantra-Churamani. It was the place where the tongue of Sati had fallen. It is this tongue that gets exhibited in the form of the flames of fire. The power of here is recognized as 'Sidhida' and 'Unmat' is considered the 'Bhairav'. |

There is a little pond near the temple that is called the dimi of Guru Gorakhnath. It is believed that the Mother had cooked 'Khichari' for Gorakhnath here. |

According to local beliefs the early temple here was got built by the Pandvas. |

There is a saying about Akbar here that he tried to get the flames of fire extinguished but he had to bow down before the power of Mother. He tried to offer a 'swarna chhatra' but the gold turned into an unknown metal. |

The burning nine flames are the symbols of nine goddesses namely Mahakali, Anpurna, Chandi, Hinglaj, Bindhyavasini, Mahalakshmi, Mahasarswati, Ambika and Anji. |

According to people's belief, anyone's desires are necessarily fulfilled by the Mother if one comes with trust and devotion to this place. |
